According to an article on the Mainichi website, Bandai plans a December release for their Mecha-Godzilla 1974 radio control monster robot. The robot, which stands roughly 50 cm tall, features shining LED eyes, 10 degrees of freedom/movement, and dramatic sound effects. Pricing here is expected to be 84,000 yen (approximately USD$760). No overseas sales plans or timing was announced.

We're great fans of master/slave control systems for robotics, especially for humanoids like the rigs used for some ROBO-ONE champions. Of course, those rigs are home-made by hobbyists on a limited budget. So it was interesting, and a little awesome, to see what professionals can do with big budgets and access to the latest technology. Jim Henson's Creature Shop, famous for the Muppets and a whole string of preschool productions...

Going through our notes and wish-lists (did anyone say 'Santa'?), we noticed that there hasn't been much press or flurry over the Spykee robot from Erector. Conceptually, it seems very attractive and feature packed, especially with its tank like mobility which could position it well for use as a hackable robotic platform. VisBox-X3 modules can be arranged in a variety of surround screen configurations, including a flat wall, a faceted theater, or an immersive room. A front-projected floor module is also available for increased immersion.
In addition to being reconfigurable, a system made up of VisBox-X3 modules is easily expandable. Additional units can be purchased and added to the system as needed.
